Project Fresh? More Like Project Desperate
They're blaming it on "declining sales" and trotting out some garbage about "Project Fresh." Oh, please. "Highest quality ingredients"? "100% fresh, never frozen beef"? Give me a break. This is Wendy's, not some artisanal burger joint in Brooklyn.
Let's be real: Project Fresh is just corporate spin for "we're desperately trying to stay relevant." They closed 140 stores in 2024 too. What, did they think a new coat of paint and slightly better lettuce would magically fix everything? Newsflash: it won't.
And what's with this Ken Cook guy, the interim CEO? Spouting off about "knowing our customers better" and "simplifying our programming and execution." Sounds like he lifted that straight from a business school textbook. He said that sales are under pressure and they are "acting with urgency". Acting with urgency? More like acting like they just woke up from a coma.
Wendy's needs more than fancy buzzwords and slightly less freezer-burned patties.
Dave Thomas is Rolling in His Grave
This whole thing just feels…sad. Dave Thomas, the guy who actually built Wendy's from the ground up, must be spinning in his grave. Born in Atlantic City, no less. The dude was a marketing genius, practically inventing the lovable fast-food mascot. Remember those commercials? The folksy charm? The square burgers?

Now? We get corporate robots droning on about "franchisee financial performance" and "elevating the brand." Whatever that even means.
It's all about the money now, offcourse. No soul. No connection. Just another soulless chain chasing the bottom line.
They are expanding internationally, though. Opening more than 320 international restaurants. Good for them. Maybe they'll have better luck peddling their mediocre burgers in Central Mexico.
Honestly, I don't get it. I used to love Wendy's. A frosty and a baked potato was the best.
Will My Local Wendy's Survive? Who Cares?
So, will my local Wendy's in Northfield, New Jersey, get the axe? I don't know, and frankly, I don't care. If it does, I'll just find another place to grab a greasy burger and complain about the state of the world. There's always McDonald's, I guess. Or Burger King. Or that new place down the street with the craft beers and the $15 burgers.
Wait, am I turning into one of those food snobs? Maybe I'm the problem. Maybe I'm expecting too much from a fast-food chain.
